Pink Tourmaline Elongated Emerald Cut Pendant.

From 1972 to 1974, nearly a ton of tourmaline was found in the mountains of Western Maine at the Dunton Mine in Newry, Maine.  The Plumbago Mining Corporation spent those two years in miners paradise; pulling grain bags full of crystals out of the mine. Gem tourmaline is rare; not every pegmatite produces gem quality crystals that are able to be cut into gems for jewelry.

The pink tourmaline in this necklace was mined during that time.  It was then cut to be the gem you see: a 10 x 5.5 mm elongated emerald cut stone that weighs 1.70 cts. This cut is called an elongated cut as the proportions are longer than the standard emerald cut.  Set in a 14KT yellow gold pendant.
